2018 keeps on getting better for UK dental partnership group, Dentex. In April, two of the groups partner’s we listed as Dentistry Top 50 2018, and now the organisation itself is up for two awards at the celebrated SME National Business Awards. Gaining nods for enterprise and innovation, the group, which launched just over 18 months ago, is thrilled to be receiving such significant industry attention.

The two categories in which Dentex has made the short list in the SME National Business Awards really reflect the company’s approach to business. Its unique business model – helping independent dental practices to retain their autonomy while providing them with the support of a national chain – has helped the company win a place in the Best Enterprising Business category which celebrates companies that find new ways to forge ahead into new markets and change the way that things are done. While the means of implementing this model – with peer to peer support – is considered worthy of the nomination in the Business Innovation category, which commends brands that make a positive difference by doing something new.

From inception, the aim of Dentex has been to challenge the typical structure of a UK dental corporate, helping dental practitioners to move their businesses in the direction they wish through collaboration and partnership. This might be developing a regional network of practices; stepping down from core administrative duties to concentrate on clinical work; spending more time with patients or simply achieve a better work-life balance. Whatever their goals, Dentex helps dentists achieve them.

Dentex CEO Barry Lanesman comments: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have made the short list in these two categories of the SME National Business Awards. Although only officially launched in 2016, Dentex was a long time in the planning – we wanted to provide a genuine alternative for dental professionals looking to avoid the established routes of independent ownership or complete corporate takeover. Our format allows like-minded peers to share knowledge, information and skills. The aim is to empower practice owners to take the paths that best suit them – be that working to build a practice portfolio or taking a step back in preparation for retirement. The whole concept is innovative; nothing like this has come before Dentex in the dental field. It’s so exciting to have the wider business world recognise this. Reaching the short list for any award is always amazing, but for Dentex the categories of innovation and enterprise are truly important.’
