Wondering how to improve your website? At Dentex, we provide support to optimise the performance of all our practices’ websites. This month, we invited Carolin Hapka, our Digital Marketing Manager to share a few hints and tips with you.
As Digital Marketing Manager, I work across our group of 72 dental practices reviewing website performance and optimisation. At Dentex, we value the uniqueness of each practice and we tailor their websites according to their business objectives, as well as their brand.
From my vast experience, I want to share with you my top 10 tips for a dental website:
1. Make sure the website is secure and has an SSL certificate. This is easy to check. Just go to your website and make sure that next to the URL a lock symbol is showing.
2. Have a website header with a clear, high quality logo. Make sure the colour scheme is consistent with the logo. Have your street address, telephone number (clickable) and booking button in the header.
3. Use simple and consistent top-level navigation. Make sure all treatments you offer are covered as sub-categories, with useful information and resources to educate patients about the various treatment procedures. It is important that each treatment has its own page.
4. Make sure your website is optimised for desktop and mobile views. Around 60% of all website traffic across the Dentex group is mobile traffic.
5. The website content should be easy to read and comprehensible for the average patient. Avoid technical jargon where possible and use high quality graphics and animations to explain complex procedures. Avoid any images are graphics that show too much detail or may make a patient anxious.
6. Improve your dental website’s credibility by incorporating Dentist Association membership logos and awards. Ideally these are added below the website banner, this way a patient sees them directly when visiting the website, but they can also be added at the bottom of the homepage above the footer.
7. Comprehensive ‘About us’ section which covers:
Dentists and staff bios along with professional qualifications
Press coverage
Practice awards
Photos and videos of the practice and staff
Mission statement of practice
8. Add information about dental plans, insurance, whether you take cards like Visa/ American express on a separate page. Link to this page from about us, contact us and the fees page.
9. Your contact form should include name, telephone number, e-mail address and message fields as basic. You can also add treatment required and options for call-back times. Always make sure that the website forms are secure and that you include a GDPR opt-in option.
10. Add social sharing buttons on every page. You might also embed a social media feed on your homepage if your Facebook/Instagram/twitter page is very active.
